Mercian Development leagues vs Kenley 6-1 win.

Scorers:  Calvin (2), Freddy (2), Seth (1), Ben (1)

Last game of the season and what a fantastic performance!  We had agreed to start fast and didn't disappoint.  A three man defence allowed us to have five in midfield which proved too much for Kenley who were never really in the game.  The score remained 0-0 for the first 12 mins but Brom Becks were putting a lot of pressure on the Kenley defence with quick passing and fast two or three men breaks.  The midfield all worked hard to keep a good shape, support the man on the ball and stay goalside when ever the opposition were in possession.

Short corner routines worked well with a fast push out and powerful strikes for two goals.  At half time Brom Becks would not have been flattered to be leading by six or seven - as it was we were 3-0 up.  The second half saw a few players in different positions, including defenders in the opposition "D"!!  The second half presented many more chances which would have resulted in a double figure scoreline for Brom Becks had there been a little more clinical finishing.  Defence and goalkeeping was very solid.

It was really impressive to see each player make a positive contribution throughout the match and some asking to come off when tired or a little unwell, but then ready to go back on after a rest - that is a good sign of giving a lot for the team and great maturity in knowing when you need a rest.  Substitutions were again made easy for me by you all accepting the changes - thank you.

An excellent team performance with a lot of individual skills.  Well done boys - you all deserved everything you achieved today as a team. Mandeep

 CONGRATULATIONS

The Under 16's have secured a place in the National Plate Finals to be held at Bowdon HC on the 10th April.

They overcame a tricky quarter final with a 8-1 win away in the depths of Somerset, at Bridgwater. It was a testing first half with Bridgwater taking advantage, of the now notorious Brom/Becks slow start, to create uncertainty in the defence. A breakaway goal by Green settled the nerves and quick thinking by Gregory got us to half-time at 2-1. The next goal was going to be a big decider and sublime skill by Webster who flicked it around one defender, drew the 'keeper and nonchalantly roofed it into the far corner, settled the nerves. After that it was one way traffic and further goals from Green, Goodall, Webster, Gold who drilled a shot from the top of the D that surprised his own teammates as well the opposition goalkeeper!! and a brilliant reverse hit cross goal from Suleman, sealed the win.

The team are joined in the finals by Norwich City, City of York and arch rivals Trinity Mid-Whitgiftians. Surely it's not going to be an U16 final between two sides who are made up of players from both Trinity and Whitgift!!

We wish them luck in the finals, all support will be welcome

Under 8's and Under 10's Tournament Report - 6th Feb 2011

U8's and U10's tournament-Sunday 6th February 2011.

U10's

Brombecks Under 10 played two Ashford and two Tunbridge Wells teams (their premier teams), in a round robin event.

It was very pleasing to note that we now have enough boys at this level to be considered competitive. This year for the first time since I have been involved  - we have had a majority of girls, who have progressed with great enthusiasm to a very good standard - (as the T'wells coach will testify- he was very complementary about our overall Standard of play).

The result of the tournament was that T'wells B team came first with 3 wins and a draw, Brombeck B won 2 Drew 1 lost 1, whilst Brombeck A were 3rd with 2 wins and 2 losses.  All the games were closely fought, the goal scorers were spread around, my understanding being that Owen H, James V, Will Bishop, Rosa H and Sam P were amongst the scorers, the defence was never exposed  in either side, Abby A, Hannah K, Jessica C, Louise W, Libby and Thomas M  all playing their part and the midfield dynamos Josh S, Cameron G and Amelia S . I would also like to say there were excellent debuts from Riley A, Annabelle S, Frazer S, Ella N and Ben Harney. Just a short note to thank all the coaches and the helpers without which this would not have taken place.

U8's

The Under 8’s also played a round robin tournament with 2 teams from Brombecks and 2 from Tunbridge Wells. The games were played as 6 a side and 19 players from Brombecks were involved.  This was the first match played as an under 8’s team for this group and for most of the players their first match ever. The standard of play was high, and very competitive.  Results were good too, with the ‘A’ team having a win, a draw and a loss, the ‘B’ team 2 wins and a loss and most importantly everyone enjoyed the games.

Thanks to Tom, Mandy & Tina for umpiring and team managing.

GOOD LUCK TO THE UNDER 18 JUNIORS

Good luck to the Under 18’s this weekend. They travel to the Fleming sports centre in Eastleigh to play in the National Club Indoor Finals having. They have four Group games against Beeston, Ashmoor, Doncaster and Old Loughtonians. A first or second place in the Group stages will secure a place in the Semi Finals.

Good luck to the squad of:

James Register

Tom Martin

Rob Farrington

Tom Berry

Bobby Harris

Ed Bull

Ollie Preston

Harry Sellers

Harry Sainsbury

James Beck

Simon Firth

The action starts on Saturday, with Semi Finals and Final being played around 3pm, if anyone fancies a trip to Eastleigh on Sunday.

It would be fantastic if the Juniors can add the Under 18 title to the Under 16 national title they won last year.

BROMBECKS U14 boys top group in England club competition (first round)

MATCH REPORT
Two final matches were played - the first against Southgate and second against Trinity Mid Whitgiftians. (We went into these with 2 wins already under our belt but still requiring at least one win and expected strong opposition). Due to unavailability a number of players were drafted into the team – two of these were from the u12’s - Mitchell and Felix.
In the first game against Southgate our boys started slow. Being the home side, Southgate fielded a strong team and quickly went two goals up. However having warmed up, in the second half B&B showed what they could do. Our play became more controlled and assured. Southgate had chances (which the defence saved/cleared) but so had B&B and half way through the second half Sean K. got us back in the game with an excellent reverse stick goal. We went on to have some great counter attacking and with five minutes to go nearly got an equaliser but it was scrambled away. The game ended 2:1 to Southgate.

Now the pressure was on. Trinity Mid Whitgiftians had lost their game to old Loughts and also needed a win. Our guys showed no nerves and got straight down to business. In the first 5 minutes we saw goals from Mitchell and Sean K. All attacks from the opposition were snuffed out by solid midfield and defence  play. The passing was slick, hit outs were strong and we were taking the chances presented. Sean K ended the 1 st half with a hat-trick and we went in 4:0 up. The second half started out much the same with an early goal from Tejan  - The midfield of Seth, Iman, Oliver, Ben and Tejan kept the forward line well fed and Sean K got two more, Tejan and Mitchell got another and Felix scored a Thierry Henry goal – between his legs. The only blot on the landscape was that Freddie got hit with a deflected ball in the mouth – a very good job he had his mouth guard in– he is now feeling better and is being pampered at home. After Freddie went off we let in two goals and the match ended 10:2. An excellent performance by everyone.

We ended the league on equal points with Southgate and our superior goal difference (that 10:2 win made the difference) put us top of the Group – so regional’s here we come.
